Designing a Stylish and Functional Kitchen

Select a layout/design that promotes the Working Triangle’ this will allow you to use the kitchen area efficiently in the three key areas: food prep, cooking & cleaning.

Lighting is very important not only for style and ambience but for functionality. Illuminate work areas with focused lighting, especially over stove and height task areas, whereas a lamp on a bench or strip lighting under overhead cabinets can create mood when not ‘working’ in the kitchen.

Cabinets form the backbone of the Kitchen, ensure your design maximises storage space with a variety of drawers and cupboards. Remember to consider any larger appliances or cookware that will need to be stored within these cabinets – things like air fryers, rice cookers etc.

Choose a cohesive colour palette which will connect to the rest of your home making everything seamlessly flow together. It doesn’t have to be ‘matchy-matchy’, but have aspects that tie to adjacent areas.

Integrating your appliances will streamline the appearance of your kitchen giving it a clean and sleek finish, it will cost additional but if it’s an un-cluttered look you want this will help.

Power Points – Strategically place power points / phone outlet chargers if necessary to accommodate various kitchen appliances and the location where they will be used most often, eg. out of view or at the end of an island bench.
