MINI MAKEOVER

Scope of Work

This project involved a targeted mini-makeover of a large, concrete gym space at Chelsea Heights. With restrictions on traditional softening elements such as rugs, textiles, artwork and ambient lighting, the design approach focused on introducing warmth and visual interest through carefully considered greenery.

The scope included the selection and installation of a statement 3-metre faux tree, complemented by layered plant styling throughout the space. Particular attention was given to scale, proportion and placement to ensure each element worked cohesively within the expansive, industrial environment. The objective was to soften the architectural hardness while maintaining functionality and durability suited to a high-traffic gym setting.

Result

The introduction of oversized greenery transformed the space, bringing warmth, texture and a sense of life to an otherwise hard and utilitarian environment. The feature tree acts as a focal point, anchoring the room and defining the spatial layout, while the additional planting layers add depth and visual balance.

By prioritising scale and intentional placement, the design achieves a strong presence without relying on conventional styling elements. The result is a more inviting, dynamic and human-centred space that feels considered and complete—demonstrating how impactful design can be achieved through thoughtful application of core principles, regardless of constraints.
